Emilio Aguinaldo College has always believed that one of the end goals of education is the transformation of society and to this end, on February 27, 2019, Emilio Aguinaldo College took an important step toward the realization of this goal by participating in a groundbreaking project: EAC Scholar sa Barangay, a program that aims to grant scholarship to 12 students from each barangay in the city of Manila. This project is in partnership with the Liga ng mga Barangay Manila Chapter, headed by their president, Dr. Leilani Lacuna. The purpose of this project is to support the education of the barangay scholars and help to improve their quality of life and develop these students as responsible, respectful, and caring citizens who can make a difference in the community in which they live.

To set the wheels in motion, a Memorandum of Agreement between the Honorable Mayor Francisco Moreno-Domagoso and Dr. Jose Paulo E. Campos, President of Emilio Aguinaldo College was signed on July 4, 2019 at the Manila City Hall. Also present to witness this momentous event were the Vice Mayor of Manila, Dr. Honey Lacuna, Dr. Leilani Lacuna, President of the Liga ng mga Barangay Manila Chapter, Councilors of the City of Manila, Dr. Lorenzo C. Lorenzo, Vice President for Administration of EAC, Dean Estefanio Boquiron, Jr., Director of the Office of Student Affairs, and Mr. Robin Ngo Reyes, Head of Marketing and Student Recruitment.

Mayor Moreno expressed his appreciation for this project and remarked that Emilio Aguinaldo College was the first ever private school in Manila to make this meaningful and gracious offer to the new administration. Although there are several state-run universities and colleges offering free education in Manila, the influx of many students who want to be “iskolar ng bayan” has congested these schools. EAC, on the other hand regard this project as part of its mission to provide students the highest aspirations for their education and future lives. We are hopeful and optimistic that this three-year project will be profoundly transformational for our young people, when we invest in the education of our young people, they rise and lift their families, their communities and their country along with them.
